Tilden and its neighboring parks in the hills above Berkeley and Oakland have an infinite variety of faces that unfold in delightful new configurations every time I visit. I like the routine of visiting the same trails, where I am familiar with the route to get there and the terrain, because I can focus on just being there rather than planning or navigating. Even going to the same locations over and over, each time there is something new and awe-inspiring to experience. Throughout the seasons, the park might be wet and overcast, dry and crunchy, or filled with spring wildflowers. I took this picture in the early evening in August 2024, while the fog rolled in from the bay. On the other side of the ridge, the sinking sun illuminated the peak of Mt. Diablo.
